NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ON GOOSLEY ROAD AT ROUTE 17 INTERSECTION IN YORK COUNTY
New lane realignment on Goosley Road aims to help ease traffic congestion

YORK COUNTY – On Monday, Nov. 20, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in conjunction with the National Park Service (NPS), implemented a new traffic pattern on Goosley Road (Route 238) at the Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) intersection in York County. This update involved reallocating the existing lanes on Goosley Road to a new alignment at the intersection, with the left lane now assigned as a dedicated left-turn-only lane. The right lane on Goosley Road has been reassigned to allow motorists to turn left, go straight, or turn right at the intersection.

This new traffic pattern is designed to help alleviate traffic congestion on Goosley Road during the long-term Colonial Parkway closure in place for the NPS bridge replacement project.

Motorists are advised to plan their commute by using VDOT’s free traffic information tools:

  • Download the 511 Virginia smartphone app or the 511-integrated Waze app.
  • Visit the 511 Virginia website or dial 511 for traffic information on your phone.
